Si infrange in finale il sogno del Friburgo, che in Europa League va a sbattere contro lo specialista, il mago della competizione: Unai Emery, l’allenatore alla quinta vittoria su sei finali disputate. 3 a 0, Aston Villa che al Tupras Stadium di Istanbul vince il suo primo importante trofeo europeo dalla Coppa dei Campioni vinta nel 1982, secondo per importanza soltanto alla Champions League che sabato 30 maggio si giocheranno Arsenal e Paris Saint Germain a Budapest. I Villains si giocheranno la Supercoppa Europea contro la vincente tra le due.
