Hey guys has anybody had any luck with using elpher and client side certificates with the station? #emacs #elpher

#Goophy DevLog 🧵
---------------------------------
First steps of a pet project of mine. A Gopher server in C called Goophy. I'm making it for educational purposes and to use it myself in the (near?) future.

The test client is elpher a gopher / gemini client for emacs.

Can’t see that in packages.debian.org yet, but it looks like elpher will be updated in the Debian repository, nice!

I needed to re-orientate all the pictures on my capsule taken with my effing smartphone cam. I had to rotate them by +90° and set the Exif Tag "Orientation" to "10" (?). They showed up as normal on my proxy web page but were turned by -90° in all the gemini browsers which also show the images by themselves. I always looked at them in the browser and don't use Lagrange so I didn't notice. I just noticed by starting to use #Elpher from #Emacs.

My smartphone cam is pure sh*t! But at least I know what to do now.

@fab I use #elpher too and it's very nice. I use it almost with #gopher so I'm not bothered by the certificate issue you're pointing out.
Gosh! Emacs is a *mighty* tool. I just configured elpher and it's fantastic. Unfortunately it's client certificate support seems to be flawed. I can't use "bubble" or "station" with my certificates. That's the only downside. Otherwise its cool. It supports Gemini, Gopher and Finger, so it's complete for the smolnet. Awesome!

Wow!

Somebody just threw a like on this old post of mine from a few years back.

Many of the links in the thread aren't alive anymore, or have moved elsewhere, but I'm going to boost it via direct link here because it appears to still have an attached zip file of probably one of the nicest Gopher clients for Windows I've ever used - Gopher Browser for Windows v1.2, by Jaruzel which I don't think is available any longer.

It's very attractive, intuitive, compact in size, and accepts slang (forgives you for not using proper Gopher syntax), unlike #LaGrange, a more fully featured and beautiful Windows client for both #Gopher and #Gemini protocols.

You may need to scroll up or down a bit. Lemme know if the d/l doesn't work (it used to).

There's also a bunch of other info there in that thread as well, much of it relevant and some of historical #Fediverse significance, and a few SSH capable #BBS clients too 🤘😜🤘

For those of you who are #Emacs folks, I highly recommend the #Elpher Gemini and Gopher client, which you can get from #Melpa.

I hope that helps!

@shitpisscum @alex @graf The best *documentation* I recall seeing on the matter (if you can actually call it documentation lolz) was actually an April fools day blog post where lain mentions addi...

@pkw do you use orgmode? What do you think about having #gopher itemtype 0 text files that are org-mode documents, and then just changing to orgmode after opening them in #elpher ?
@silverwizard @nuintari
What was the t itemtype again? For markdown? At least #elpher doesn't interpret it (to be the same as 0) x_x
