I thought about @[email protected], but I don't know enough about her yet. So I don't put people in the list if I don't know enough. She's in the list to look into. #Electability matters if I like somebody enough that they are in that group. I need somebody to beat #Newsom. I do not believe him.

"The current #UK #economiccrisis is a dual one of crumbling #publicservices and #stagnantgrowth, and a key mistake the #Labourgovernment is making is keeping #taxes too low. But is their reluctance to raise taxes primarily due to a hunger for #economicrespectability? It seems to me it is more about a hunger for #electability, and thinking (incorrectly in my view [1]) that higher taxes will lose them #votes because it will add to the current #costoflivingcrisis."

Why following the path of the last Labour government will not work this time

That is still the case, but #Democrats came to realize in the past weeks (especially after a lackluster #debate performance), that #electability would be an issue if #Biden stayed in.

They were seeing a situation where 2016 was repeating itself: a top of the ticket #candidate that would likely push enough people to not vote in the #election, opening the way for #Trump to win.

There is good reason to think the #Republicans can lose in 2024, and that some other candidate, cough #Youngkin cough, would be more electable. Reasonable people are baffled Republicans won't forsake #Trump.

But #electability isn't a concern for #Repubican primary voters, who believe that Joe Biden is #demented and keeps falling down, and believe the #BigLie that Biden already lost to Trump in 2020.

Hat tip to #PodSaveAmerica for giving me new ways to think about this.

My article in this week's Glen Innes Examiner looks at #Diversity, #Tolerance and #Electability in #auspol. Message me for text copyif needed.

"a transition, from the #Biden vision of #electability, to a Sanders vision, an #antiestablishment vision...
from thinking that the candidate has to appeal to moderate republicans, to embracing the Sanders framework of motivating a coalition cross section of voters across races and generations.

And doing that, it takes Bernie Sanders from being the least electable candidate, to the only one who can build that kind of coalition."

The Field: Biden’s Last Hope - The Daily

Former vice president Joseph R. Biden Jr. was once a clear front-runner in the race for the Democratic nomination. Now, he is fighting back from a string of losses and staking his candidacy on his ability to win tomorrow’s South Carolina primary, the first in a state with a large black population. But will he win, and if the margin isn’t as decisive as he hopes, can he stay in the race? Guest: Astead W. Herndon, who covers national politics for The New York Times traveled to South Carolina with Clare Toeniskoetter and Annie Brown, producers on “The Daily.” For more information on today’s episode, visit nytimes.com/thedaily.  Background reading: A new poll showed Mr. Biden with a wide lead in South Carolina, with Senator Bernie Sanders and hedge fund billionaire Tom Steyer trailing behind.Mr. Biden lashed out after reports that Mr, Sanders considered mounting a primary challenge to President Barack Obama in 2012, saying it was “one of the reasons I resent Bernie.”Churches have long played the primary role
