I believe current Supreme Court majority has been working on ways to destroy the 14th Amendment, and is prepared to start with this decision. Lead by Alito and Thomas, they will cite originalism of 3/5 of a person concepts and other nonsense from colonial slave trade records to justify their decision.

«Many people I respect continue to hold versions of this view. But the more I read & listened, the clearer it became: #Section3 was directed against precisely the conduct #Trump engaged in. Its purpose is to protect the republic from those who would shred the #Constitution & destroy our system of self-government. What Trump did in advance of the attack on the #Capitol & on #Jan6, 2021, legally disqualifies him from the presidency»

Why I changed my mind and think Trump should be thrown off the ballot

He disqualified himself.

Incisive take on the ethics of the #DebtCeiling rodeo from #EJDionne , a leading exponent of the best in #CatholicSocialThought : “The fact that Americans with the lowest incomes are political pawns in this exercise is a moral stain on our country.”

#EJDionne embodies the teacher as diligent student in his review of a new book from #MichaelWalzer , drawing a distinction between “freedom from” and “freedom to” strains of liberalism, but also #decency as the ground for all the nouns most critically modified by “liberal:”

Why we should all be liberal: The power of an adjective

The adjective “liberal,” Michael Walzer writes in '« The Struggle for a Decent Politics, » “determines not who we are but how we are who we are.”

How the right took joy and profit in McCarthy’s misery

In Deep Red America, the 2022 election was defined not by GOP defeats in swing states but by a surge of anti-Biden, anti-Democratic feeling in already Republican areas.

Wise words at Christmastide from #EJDionne :
“[T]he best contributions to [pop culture around Christmas] convey the joy that comes to those who allow their lives to be guided by a brave but gentle love that dares them to put aside hatred and suffocating self-involvement:”

This holiday provides the best opportunity Christians have to make a case for themselves, for what they believe and for what their faith promises.

Great column, #EJDionne — “What we are seeing in the opposition to same-sex marriage is less about religious faith than cultural predispositions:”

A question to conservative Christians on gay marriage: Why draw the line here?

We do not see court cases about website designers refusing to do business with people in their second or third marriages. Why the selective forgiveness?
