So I have fallen down into the mechanical watch rabbit hole, having found Marshall Sutcliffe's watch repair YouTube channel (side note: It was REALLY weird to hear him for the first time because I know him from his prolific Magic: the Gathering engagement over the years) and it made me think about #Outlander!
Fans of the series will know that in order to time travel, the person first needs the genes to be able to do so, and they also need a precious gem (or blood sacrifice, but that's another toot). That got me thinking about the watch repair stuff because the jewels used inside watches are rubies, and rubies are a precious gem. So in theory, could someone with a fancy 20 gem Rolex travel 20 times? Additionally, these things can't be overly expensive, so they could very well be purchased in bulk in the present time and transported back. They're unlikely to be the object of theft since they're very small and don't look like a gem that would be set in jewelery.
Anyways, that's where my mind went. #droughtlander
