A digital restoration technique for damaged paintings was developed, in which a colour-accurate bilayer mask of printed pigments on polymeric films was used, reducing treatment time and cost while adhering to ethical conservation principles.

I did a heavier amount of digital restoration to this image and I thought people might like to see what the scan looked like without any edits. (I am not a professional artist or restorer. I'm certain other people could have done better.) Scanned from the original Kodak Tri-X Pan 35mm negative.

Super interesting article about digital restoration of van Goghs paintings returning the hues of non lightfast and long faded pigments. The journal has more articles on the use of pigments by van Gogh, who wrote about them extensively to his brother.
