Solution: make sure I had the `input` group so I had permission to access `/dev/input/*`...... * facepalms * 🤦♀️

St Woke of PronounsTook apart my modded DS4 V2 controller (JDM-055) to try some WD40 contact cleaner on the drifting default left stick, that worked great BUT then my square button and R2 stopped responding after reassembly.
Putting this here in case it's of any use/can save hours of annoyance to anyone encountering the same issue.
Clean this specific area with some isoprop, reassemble and you're welcome 😩
