My DIY air quality monitor system has been out of commission for a while and I couldn’t be bothered to investigate it

But

I did this weekend, though, and I think I fixed a few issues too

The raspberry pi zero in charge of storing the readings was struggling, apparently kernel panic

So I reinstalled the flash entirely from a recent image, added my tools and my app, all of which took an hour

Everything is back and I iterated a few times on the microcontroller app, and it hasn’t been smooth but it’s been better than last year

Issues as far as I could see were:

  • too many WiFi thingies close together in a small room => RF interference
  • the bridge node was spending too much time not reaching storage over HTTP => not getting mesh sync => nodes disconnected

So I spaced them out and I added a timed reset

Let’s see how long this lasts!

I wish I knew how to get back to this state 😅

I have everything in git, so there is a history of the code changes but I never committed the list of dependencies and their version…

I documented all that after this point

I think I may have made my son an electronics hoarder. He said he didn't need one of his old toys and ose to strip it for parts this afternoon. All I heard from the other room was 'oh, this is a really nice button and DC motor' 😂
Now he's looking forward to repurposing them in a project

Bought another screen and I'm waiting for it to arrive. AAAANNNNDDD It won't fit either. Why do I keep buying these displays with PCBs on the back?! The display itself fits, but the PCB messes everything up.

Wellp. Another week of mourning having to buy another one. Although I'm having fun with this project, I really need to earn more money. :)

(Maybe I can separate the display from the board...? I'd need to buy a connector...but they are cheaper... Humm...)

Some more workshop work on the SDG2042X Linux GUI today (got a free Monday): Fixed 5 bugs in this round, including ARB handling on the real instrument, sweep fallback timing, preset handling, and one unsafe input-parsing corner.

I hope GUI is getting a bit less fragile / more reliable.

New lab gear for upcoming TōGō-Lab projects: Picked up Nordic’s Power Profiler Kit II to get a good look at low-power behavior instead of guessing with a handheld power meter.

Setup in a virtual Win10 was easy. But getting it running on my Ubuntu workbench machine was a bit more fiddly than expected.

Nordic's AppImage works, but not quite as plug-and-play as I hoped.

The last few weeks went into project Nr. 0005: 電力番長 (Denryoku Bancho), my Linux-native fork path for the MightyWatt electronic load.

Main reason: Finally wanted this thing to live where I want it: In my Linux lab environment instead of in a virtual Windows side corner so I can better integrate. It also fits well with restarting my electronics hobby & reshaping my lab.

So the cli part of the project is now at beta 0.1. It basically works, but it still needs heavy testing and improve over the next few weeks. Maybe a GUI will follow later.

I changed a few things after taking this pic but I have a 555 working to control the 358 now. Did two hours of bottom prep hair removal with it last night.

instead of an adjustable voltage knob I put a reset button in the middle. If I could find a way to make a 555 oneshot be trigger toggled back to off that would be more ideal.
