@ChrisCorrigan I think that essay is largely correct; there are signs of a vibe shift regarding #MarkCarney: Canadians are starting to realise that they're not getting what they expected from his premiership, and at some point I expect them to decide that he misled them. (My evidence for changing sentiment is the #AtIssue panel, and the slow rise of the NDP, e.g., at https://338canada.com/federal.htm .)

Whether this will result in a #CPC government, with or without Mr. Poilievre, is hard to say.

El Niño officially arrives during hurricane season with potential to become strongest Super El Niño ever

El Niño conditions developed over the last month across the Central and Eastern Pacific Ocean, as ocean temperatures continue to be above average, and signs are pointing to a “very strong" El Niño later in the year.

El Niño develops, NOAA estimates 63% chance of a very strong event in 2026–27 winter

El Niño conditions have developed in the tropical Pacific Ocean and are expected to strengthen through the Northern Hemisphere winter of 2026-27, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The Climate Prediction Center (CPC) issued an El Niño Advisory on June 11, 2026, after oceanic and atmospheric conditions shifted into an El Niño pattern. #weather #ElNino #CPC

The Watchers

@ChrisCorrigan Eh, the #CPC tried avuncular leaders with Mr. Scheer and Mr. O'Toole — they were criticised as extremists anyway. We did better in the 2025 election with a leader who was more of a scrapper; we'll see how he does in the next election, after the shine comes off PM Carney. After all, he can't be all things to all men after a few years in power.

But yes, Brian Mulroney was a good PM, particularly from the environmental standpoint.

@ChrisCorrigan As for Mr. Poilievre, 41% of votes is the highest proportion of votes Conservatives have won federally since 1988, so he clearly has some popular appeal. Though the #CPC shed some votes to the Liberals, the key story of #elxn45 was the collapse of the NDP and Bloc votes, driven by Pres. Trump.

@ChrisCorrigan PM #MarkCarney seems to agree broadly with the Conservative diagnosis of the problems this country faces, and with their proposed solutions. So from a policy standpoint, I'm mostly happy (though I think a #CPC government would go further and faster, as it should).

Conservatives come up with ideas, Liberals mostly enact them; sure, that's a type of collaboration. Like Mr. Singh's NDP, the #CPC won't get much credit though.

Ken Boessnkool: We have changed Canada before. We can do it again.

To hear Alberta separatists talk, one might think that the last 20 years of conservative activism had simply never happened in this country.
