“Regulators recognize that Canadians are already partaking in this trading (via virtual private networks that hide their location), and that there is a large appetite. So, they wanted to offer a regulated way for them to participate.”

Et surtout à cause de la remontée du NPD 😏 (as if this governement gives a fuck about "public feedback").
@Sir_Osis_of_Liver You don't think it's of interest that when the #CRTC implements the policies of the Online Streaming Act (enacted under PM Trudeau), Minister Miller orders them to stop?

Federal investments of $600 million will provide stability and immediate support to Canada’s audio and audiovisual sectors and keep Canadian culture accessible and affordable for all
Sean Speer: "This is such a cynicism-inducing announcement from the Trudeau/Carney government. For years, the Liberals dogmatically pursued the Online Streaming Act despite overwhelming evidence that it would drive up prices and undermine choice for consumers and distort market access for Canadian creators. Then as the CRTC goes about implementing the government's (predictably) bad law, the minister intervenes on affordability grounds" | nitter

“What to know about Trump’s forced labour claims against Canada
OTTAWA — Canada is facing the prospect of entirely new tariffs from U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration after Washington claimed Ottawa has a poor track record on preventing importation of products of forced labour.”

#HowardAnglin: "Reminds me of the Duke of Wellington's brief and ineffectual stint as prime minister, when he described his Cabinet meeting as: “An extraordinary affair. I gave them their orders and they wanted to stay and discuss them.” For what it's worth, I couldn't care less if Carney yells if he is effective, and on that the jury is very much out."

(Personally, I disagree with Mr. Anglin; I care about #MarkCarney's character.)
@virtuous_sloth @timbray You learn a lot about a man's character by the way he treats his subordinates — though that's not really the right term for the relationship between a party leader and his or her caucus.
Must be pretty bad in the Liberal caucus to have this sort of leak despite the PM's popularity.
Canada should know better.
We have the schools, the engineers, the telecom history, the security expertise, the AI researchers, the policy institutions, and the civic memory to build serious digital sovereignty.
Instead, Ottawa keeps mistaking control for competence.
I wrote a longer essay on Bill C-22, AI strategy, age verification, and what digital sovereignty should actually require.
