The costly lesson from COVID: why elimination should be the default global strategy for future pandemics

An upgraded global response to future potential pandemic threats would give the best chance of eliminating new infectious diseases at source before they spread globally.

Just a quick reminder that if you are eligible for a second #COVID19 booster (i.e. fourth shot/ dose) and in Australia, check https://covid-vaccine.healthdirect.gov.au/booking/ for your nearest location. There are many chemists in central Syd, for e.g., that have signs welcoming walk-ins for boosters. You don't need to make a booking.

@elektra (my lovely Mrs) just tested positive with a #RAT 15 days after first testing positive. She did 2 rats before returning to work, she was clear. I did one on Monday I was too.

We've got some great advice from you good peeps so far about #LongCovid. How is this possible? Is it a reinfection? Different strain? Or is it possible for the virus to reassert itself?

Edit: I'm positive too, after testing negative on Monday. 🤦

good test of Mastodon with new #CovidAus announcements. Which bivalent has been approved as a booster? BA.1 or BA.5?

The CMO really believes that the peak has already passed of this new wave? LOL

Mark Butler announces ATAGI advice:

✅ For over 18's Pfizer bivalent vaccine approval for 3rd and 4th doses

✅ For under 5's severely immunocompromised and with specific health conditions can get Pfizer pediatric vaccine (from mid Jan 2023)

✅ No recommendation for 5th dose at this time

Looks like a wait and see for all of us really. Would think that at least a 'please wear a quality mask in indoor or crowded settings' wouldn't have gone astray.

I've been wearing a mask at my workplace all along, while my co-workers are all getting sick and taking time off, or worse still, coming in to work while sneezing and coughing everywhere anyway.

This week, I've had multiple people ask me why I'm "still wearing a mask"

People, we're at the start of yet another wave. #covid hasn't gone away, and despite having a bad enough reaction to the vaccine to rule out getting any boosters, I've managed to avoid catching the virus (as far as I know).
We are now getting a much better idea of how the virus affects us in the longer term, and it's scary.

But hey, it's only a mild sickness 🙄
