Chocolate challah
"After a month of feasting on #fried and #festive #foods, many people take advantage of the new year to “reset.” Now, I don’t subscribe to the idea that any food is inherently bad, nor that we need to punish ourselves with weeks of sad #salads after indulging, but sometimes too much heavy, rich or sweet food can leave us feeling sluggish. If that resonates, I’ve rounded up seven #nourishing #Jewish #recipes that will satisfy you and fill your body with all the good stuff, so you can begin 2026 with energy and good health. And, if #Veganuary or #Meat-Free Mondays are your thing, there’s inspiration here, too!
From a wholesome #multigrain #challah to immune-boosting #chicken #soup; a super easy, #veggie-packed #kugel to #meatfree stuffed #cabbage, these healthy #Jewishrecipes will warm your soul and put a spring in your step.
If you do try any of these recipes, please be sure to rate it! We love to hear your feedback..."

“People often ask me, ‘What is the most #Jewish ingredient?’” said Naama Shefi, founder of #JewishFoodSociety, while holding a piece of fresh #challah #bread painted with remnants of red lipstick from her last bite. “I don’t think there is such a thing. But if there is, I would say it’s time.”
Shefi was standing in the middle of the #ApexLounge at #Scribner’s #Catskill Lodge, watching snow pile up on the windowsills. Surrounding her were Jewish and non-Jewish friends of all ages, all of whom had come together to celebrate the second annual Jewish #Catskills Weekend, and to share their appreciation for the power of #food to unify."

Finished my challah-bread fabrication, which baked up while we had supper.
It's been a couple of years since my last, as my Mastodon record-keeping tells me. (I'll boost the old ones from a few years ago in a sec)
I should make this more often just to keep in practice. I probably could've proofed these slightly longer. One takes a bit of a left hook there. lol
Challah bread in process. Just formed up the enriched dough into the requisite braids. Waiting for a rise then bake.
Chag Chanukah Sameach! 🕎
Because keeping it celebratory in the face of everything is the whole point of the day, and because I saw a poll asking if vegans avoid challah, here is my go-to (vegan!) challah recipe: https://www.lionsbread.com/the-best-vegan-challah-bread-water-challah-recipe/
Alterations/substitutions I do to make it like the egg one (still vegan!):
