FCC passes auto safety spectrum rules

C-V2X will use existing cellular networks to send messages from vehicle to vehicle, vehicle to infrastructure, vehicle to cyclists, or vehicle to pedestrians to warn of each other's presence for safety purposes. It could cross-alert for hazardous road conditions, including speeding cars, weather, or traffic congestion.

FCC passes auto safety spectrum rules

FCC has finalized Cellular Vehicle-to-Everying (C-V2X) technology spectrum rules by evolving the 5.9GHz band for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).

As a #cyclist, I like this #CV2X tech I just came across via /. If adopted into more vehicles and in bike tech like my #Garmin head unit this could really improve safety on the road...especially in the US where everyone is so angry and in a hurry.

C-V2X explained - 5GAA

Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything, or C-V2X, is a connected mobility platform that allows vehicles to interact with their surroundings, such as other vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians, road infrastructure, or mobile networks. To enable connectivity within the broader transport ecosystem, C-V2X uses two complementary transmission modes. First, direct communications (PC5) works independently of cellular…

C-V2X communication requires _very_ precise timing so that transmitting devices can find and use their transmission time slot. We rely on GPS time for this.

For our V2X node (https://www.zero-iee.com/assets/products/pdfs/V2XNode_Product_Description.pdf), we are therefore trying out various GPS modules that provide us with the necessary 1PPS signal. This is not the case for all modules.

We are curious to see whether the AT6558R GPS chip proves itself and meets our requirements.
