Since the name from the title is a lot to digest, they like to be called #CFV3V. ‘They’ is a bunch of mostly #train drivers who had, back in 1973, the crazy idea of rescuing old trains of being scrapped. Fast forward 50 years and the organization is arguably the biggest in the Benelux getting to live on the memory of train patrimonium.

The #museum of CFV3V is impressive for a lack of better words and the steam engine trips are often booked up well in advance.

CFV3V also holds half a dozen train wreckages that either are waiting to be restored or which are used for spare parts.

Well worth a visit even if you are not into trains.

Holiday souvenirs.

I always bring back beer from Belgium but the last trip featured a coupel of special bottles.

1, 2/ Duvel "Magritte" beer
I saw the original Magritte "Sky Bottle" (1940) in the Brussels Magritte museum on 15th August, so couldn't resist buying the Duvel special beer in a supermarket the next day.

3/ Chemin de fer à vapeur des 3 vallées beer
This special beer (unknown brewer) was being sold in the gift shop. It says it's "bière artisanale de fermentation naturelle" which covers a lot of ground. I think it was brewed to celebrate the railway's 50th anniversary in 2023.

1/ Loco AD05 being moved to the carriages of "our" train.
2/ We had a choice of carriages with leatherette seats or wooden seats. Given the hot and sticky weather we chose the latter.
3/ Old tannery and Roche à Lomme seen from the train.
4/ Olloy sur Viroin station has a rather fine glass canopy.
5/ Loco AD05 taking on water at Treignes. There isn't a water crane here so a pump is used to transfer water from a tanker wagon.

First proper day on holiday was excellent. Started by returning empty beer bottles for €7.60, then on to the CFV3V steam railway for a lovely afternoon train ride and museum visit. Bought a good T shirt in their shop.
