While normally I'm supportive of the government spending a bit more to create infrastructure with inspiring designs, the new #BurnsideBridge is focused on allowing cars to drive over other cars, a function that is unworthy of soaring iconography.
An advisory committee recommending a design for a Burnside Bridge replacement is pushing a unique design that's both more expensive and far less popular with survey respondents, the editorial board writes. In deciding which design to adopt, the Multnomah County board of commissioners should remember that there's nothing wrong with building a bridge that's functional, more affordable and common.
I don't know the best way to let #pedestrians and #bikes use the new #BurnsideBridge, but these wacky ramps are not it.
