Has anyone read this? It came out late last year and was in the running for the Booker. The wait list for the library was super long, but I finally got it. I started it, and wasn’t blown away by it, also it’s 600+ pages. I didn’t hate it by any means, could’ve been just bad timing or my mood. Since the Kindle copy went on sale, I bought it, thinking to give another try. I’d love to hear your thoughts if you’ve read it. #bookstodon #bookstoot #books

#DoingTheBusiness is not the #autobiography I was hoping for. Despite #CharlieKray having a credit as co-author, and his name being in the title, it's written in the third person, and the majority of the book is about Ron and Reg. The stories are interesting enough, but I haven't learnt anything new about Charlie or the twins, and there are definitely some better and more comprehensive biographies out there.

The next instalment of the Thursday Next series. The Well Of Lost Plots is probably my favourite so far. The highlights definitely include Wuthering Heights and Heathcliff, and I really enjoyed the humour. Although I did wonder why anyone would set a book in Reading.

I enjoyed Lily; the story is fast-paced and easy to read, and I love a bit of fiction set in Victorian London. But I did find it too sentimental, almost twee, and that began to grate in the end. I really wanted Lily to be a stronger character than she was.

The Iremongers are in search of a new home, the disease of Foulsham has spread into London, and Clod is coming into his powers... I am so glad I discovered this trilogy; it's wonderfully gothic and strange, and I've never read anything like it before.

Foulsham is whimsical and dark - much darker than Heap House - Binadit's first few chapters definitely scared me in the night.

Yesterday I got author copies of my most recent book, a collection of short stories titled Where Rivers Go To Die. They look lovely and the red tones make me want to change my favourite colour from blue to red. You can find yourself a copy of this book on online stores.

These are stories I've written over twenty years, since the earliest I first wrote circa 2003-4

This is definitely more my level. I loved Horrible Histories when I was growing up, and still have a couple of the books and all the magazines I collected. Even as an adult, it's engaging, informative, and I learned a lot. There were a couple of points where I wanted more information, but it's a history book for children and it's up to me to research what's missing.

Highly recommended book of the day is The Rise and Reign of the Mammals by Steve Brusatte. Companion to the Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs.

Did this book need to be 450 pages long? Did I need to be bombarded with so much useless information? Did I need to know the weird, disjointed inner monologue of either Alessia or Maxim, including such phrases as "mate!", "dude!", and "fuck a duck"?

I personally quite enjoyed #FiftyShadesOfGrey and #TheMister, but #TheMissus is not what I was hoping for. Nothing happens, the romance is meh, and I found it hard to believe that any of these characters were young.
