講《Horrible Histories》，不能不了解作者Terry Deary的故事。

Terry Deary在學生時期是個不愛上課，而且常製造麻煩的孩子。長大後他醉心話劇，也曾到學校做戲劇老師。他覺得英國學童不愛歷史，是因為教得太悶，因此，他決定用有趣的方式，帶點八卦娛樂及冷知識的方式來重新詮釋歷史，讓歷史變得有趣。他要以人為中心，不是以年份數字為中心的童書；他說要用平民、農民的角度去描繪名人君王。結果1993年他第一本Horrible Histories的童書面世，將歷史臨時演員變成敍事的核心，即刻引來爭議，也好評如潮。

This is definitely more my level. I loved Horrible Histories when I was growing up, and still have a couple of the books and all the magazines I collected. Even as an adult, it's engaging, informative, and I learned a lot. There were a couple of points where I wanted more information, but it's a history book for children and it's up to me to research what's missing.
