When we close streets to cars and open them up to people, we can't just leave them as-is for half a decade. We need to build infrastructure to ensure that cars *can't* come back. Otherwise, it's too tempting for drivers who see a pristine stretch of unclogged road to be like, "hey I could be breaking the speed limits or storing my car there for free!", lobby their local weak-spined politicians, and reclaim the road for SUVs. #BikeNYC #BikeQNS

Community Board Defies Parents in Vote to Reopen Forest Park to Cars - Streetsblog New York City

The Parks Department appears to have given in to a vocal group of Queens drivers.

Today two separate people asked me about (ortlieb) panniers. One in TJs on the escalator, the other outside at the falafel truck. I've been asked so many times by strangers about my various cargo bikes, but can honestly say I've never been asked about my panniers in at least a decade. To be fair, they're pretty new and in both cases they were extremely full!

I had an air filter attached to the rear of my #Kombi, and then I realized that I couldn't shift. One of the cords that I had used to secure the hepa filter was on the derailleur. It was an easy thing to fix, but it reminded me just how much I hate derailleurs (and any kind of external gears in general). #BikeTooter #CargoBike #BikeNYC #BikeQNS
Introducing PossumLockℒ️, a theft-deterrent device. It works especially well on hot days, keeping thieves away from your bike due to the smell. #BikeTooter #BikeQNS

That was fun. I was crossing the Queensboro Bridge when I notice a dad and his kid biking in front of me. When we get to Skillman I pass them and say to the dad, "He's doing great!" Turns out they're biking all the way to Forest Hills, and the kid is the same age as my daughter and they were previously in the same school & class. We chatted the rest of the 6mi ride home. #BikeNYC #BikeQNS

It made me miss #KidicalMass. We should have one on the #QueensBlvdPBL @transportationalternatives.

So, like, what in the hostile architecture is up with this fence on #QueensBlvd? Is that to ensure that drivers on BOTH roads have enough space to illegally park on the curb? Is it to keep people from camping? Was someone at #NYCDOT drunk?

So I know there are various problems with green-painted bike lanes (paint can be slippery in the rain, it's a wasteful amount of paint, and so on), but.. when you're biking w/ a 7yo, it sure is a lot easier to just tell her "stay in the green part!".

I was in the #QueensBlvdPBL with my (bakfiet) cargo bike, and some lady pulls her car about 20-30ft in front of me. Predicting what would happen next, I gave a wide berth as her passenger flung the door open just before I passed them.

I screamed "ASSHOLE" at the top of my lungs, scaring tf out of both of them. It felt good.

This locked gate is not a welcome sight when it means I have to go back up a fairly steep hill to continue on an alternative route. It's especially crappy when I am towing a kid. It's fucking shitty when it means I'm now forced to take a much less safe route. This is never supposed to be locked during the day. They still didn't get the message. #ShoreTowersSucks #bikenyc #biketooter #bikeqns
Saw a cargo trailer (for a bike) yesterday at the St Patrick's Day for All parade and I'm not gonna lie, all I could think of was how many groceries I'd be able to put on that thing. 🀣 Lacking in storage space for such a trailer, I guess I'll be sticking to more frequent trips and a backpack plus bags hanging from from the handlebars or on the front rack (if I use Citibike.) #bikenyc #bikeqns #nyc
