Why am I seeing this on beige.party (and not on kolektiva.social)? Is it an algorithm?
It's a list of people that SOMEONE (or some •thing•) wants me to follow. But who? And why?
Why was I seeing what I can only call advertisement-posts on beige.party, but not on kolektiva.social?
I wasn't following those accounts. The posts weren't boosted at all, as far as I could tell - and certainly not by anyone I follow.
So...can an instance just shove posts into your feed? I thought that your feed is just the posts made or boosted by people you've chosen to follow, right? Mastodon has no algorithms. Does it?
Not a big problem. I blocked the two advertiser accounts as soon as I became aware of them. But it's odd, and that makes me want to know why it happened.
I discovered that the reason I couldn't find my meet up toot is that it's been sitting in my drafts folder for several weeks! I'm going to post then edit to tag everyone.
** EDIT ** Fuck. I realised that (a) 16/6 is a Tuesday, I vaguely remembered that it was a Friday but nope. (b) I may not be able to make it (though I can probably arrange cover). I'm going to put a poll in to see if Saturday 20/6 works better **
Hey is it time to think of a #beigeParty meet up for 2026? I guess the default is a #beigeMeetupLondon but have beige will travel if there are other suggestions. (and it would be fun to go to Tooting this time if London)
My default date suggestion is 16th June, as weather should be better and it's exactly 6 months until John Mastodon Day but if anyone has travel plans we could work around that.
And of course we can do a vidcall to any far flung beigers like last time.
