Generally a country swing infused indie rock band, Banshee Tree tends to cover a wider range of genre mixtures. They extend into a jazzy neo-soul sound at times, in addition to their more common back and forth between indie folk and the old school swing style. Django Reinhardt inspired Eastern European flavors are not unheard of either (see "Canary's Gone"). Their live performances regularly take them into the jam band territory. When saxophonist Jesse Shantor replaced the Nick Carter and his fiddle in 2024, their sound shifted into a decidedly jazzier direction. They are led by guitarist-singer Tom LaFond, who is also their primary songwriter and longest sitting member.
