I’ve just experienced my first rotten egg while baking 🤢. Of course this was the one time I didn’t break the egg into a separate bowl before adding to rest of the ingredients 🙄. I’ve cleaned up, almost finished retching at the mere thought of it and prepare to start again. I am scared to crack the next egg.

It’s my wife’s birthday tomorrow and I am making a special cake she asked for. Got it in the oven and 5 minutes later I noticed the bowl of egg yolks and sugar that I forgot to mix in. 🤦

So, I mixed it in…. And I have no faith that anything edible will come out.

I fucked up my (oven baked) donuts. I failed to fully read the directions and left out the sugar. Problem slightly solved by rolling them in melted butter and confectioner sugar but grrr.

Snuck a few posts in over the last week, but they were all failed pies. From the start of the project, failed bakes were included, simply because not everything goes according to plan. Mistakes happen and should be accepted. But, at some point, I realized I had been phoning it in for various reasons and wrote about it.

To quote Lazarus Lake: “You can't accomplish anything without the possibility of failure.”

Getting in a nice groove of resurrecting an archive post every three days….

This was the first major fail of the project was a strawberry pie. Part of me suspects strawberries changed over the last century, that older varieties were smaller, denser, and contained less moisture. Anyway, it was still tasty, even if messy.

I recently watched a short video about sourdough making and heard the expression "spelt is a diva".

Yesterday I found out that this is true, while baking a spelt sourdough bread. Although I used less water than usual the dough became "liquid" resulting in this #bakingfail #sourdough.

Still tastes awsome, though 😂

Sigh...was halving a recipe for enriched dough for experimental buns and didn't halve the yeast.
