That’d be right! ❗️
Now it would be nice to see that point made, and some general education, for all of us, on the Australian Constitution. Some wider discussion. 😀

Anne Twomey explaining what happens when we have a hung Parliament.

It's a bit dry, but important. She's also very thorough. Well worth the time to know this before the hot takes start flying.

‘…No is itself a tacitly Racist position because it does nothing to address or change the terms of the Constitution. Voting No because of some glib principle of 'unity' and that 'we are all one' merely serves to protect the existing terms; which were racist.’

Re: Preamble, Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act (1900)

‘Please note the words "the people" and "have agreed to". The truth being denied with the 'unity' argument and that people should be equal before the law, is that 'the people' in all states which federated together to form the Commonwealth, specifically excluded first peoples. If you specifically excluded first peoples, then there is no way that they "have agreed to" anything.’

‘It wasn't until Mabo and Others v Queensland No.2 (1992) that any notion of original sovereignty of first peoples over the land was entertained.’

Opposition leader accuses prime minister of 'treating people like mugs' over Voice referendum
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-01-08/indigneous-voice-referendum-opposition-peter-dutton/101835590
Peter Dutton is ‘treating people like mugs’ in the way he is misrepresenting the way the #AustralianConstitution describes all the institutions that govern us. It doesn’t even mention the office of Prime Minister, let alone the Leader of the Opposition #TheVoiceReferendum #auspol
Opposition Leader Peter Dutton says the Indigenous Voice to Parliament referendum will fail without more detail

In an open letter, Opposition Leader Peter Dutton asks the prime minister 15 questions he says need to be answered before Australians can make an informed decision at the upcoming referendum.

ABC News
From listening to Dan Tehan on ABC’s Radio National this morning, it’s clear that the Liberal Party’s strategy to defeat #TheVoiceReferendum is to muddy the waters by demanding specific detail in the wording of the proposed clause. The contents of the #AustralianConstitution aren’t exactly well known, which is what the reactionaries are banking on. We need an education campaign on the actual inclusions (& omissions) in the constitution (eg no political parties, no cabinet) #auspol
