John Marsden was so influential on me and I love revisiting him with my students, taking the torch from my own English teachers.

A master at capturing the adolescent voice and using the epistolary form. It always impressed me how his characters sounded like friends.

PERSONAL MATTERS

It will interest many New Zealanders to know that Mr. Will #Lawson, the author of many entertaining articles and stories, which have appeared in the Press of the Dominion, is in San Francisco, and, according to the officers of the Tahiti, which arrived this morning from the Californian port, is enjoying good health. Several articles from his pen have already been published in the “Pacific Marine Review,” notably one on Pelorus Jack, and another on the history of the San Francisco-Sydney mail service.

Writers: how long since you went to a writers/readers/literary festival? I've just returned from one and have popped up the first of a series of blog posts about the experience. This one is about all the benefits writers receive from attending. The next post will be about how to get the most from attending. And then one on what you can do to get an invite to one! Plus I'll do a highlights post as the festival was fantastic and the impact on me/for me next level. https://annafeatherstone.com/what-are-the-benefits-for-writers-who-attend-writers-festivals/

I'm back in a farm-lit reading phase. I needed some space after writing/living in the genre - but so glad to have picked up two of the latest books by Australian authors. One hilarious, the other hauntingly thoughtful and beautiful. What are your favourite farmlit books? Are they funny or sobering?
