Anyone managed to any of the #Fedora #AtomicDesktop distros booting on #LibreBoot yet? I can boot it fine if I explicitly choose the NVME drive but the "normal" boot process doesn't find Fedora's bootloader. The Fedora specific instructions on the Libreboot website don't seem to apply to #Atomic versions.

I managed to get #XLibre and #XFCE running on #AlmaLinux 10.1 by compiling manually from source. It is a challange, because Red Hat decided to remove all #Xorg packages in version 10 of #RHEL

But with enough effort I succeeded and I'm happy with my result, because now I can enjoy the performance and compatibility benefits of XLibre on a stable enterprise-grade distribution.

It's built on AlmaLinux #AtomicDesktop and the source code can be found on my Github repo: https://github.com/andersrh/my-ostree-os under the xlibre branch - but beware that it's still a bit messy since I'm still testing.
I'm planning to release the code in a new repo and build it so it's easier to use for people, who are interested.

The Linux desktop is evolving.

Fedora Atomic, Universal Blue, and the shift from "snowflakes" to verifiable, reproducible images. I wrote about why OSTree, bootc, and images like Aurora & Bazzite are the future of reliable desktop computing.

Goodbye dnf update, hello atomic rollbacks.

Immutable Linux Desktops: Universal Blue, OSTree, and the Future of Desktop Linux

Exploring atomic desktop Linux distributions, the technology stack behind them, and why Universal Blue’s Aurora and Bazzite represent a compelling vision for reliable, maintainable desktop systems.

Eigentlich wollte ich ja ein ganz normales Fedora 42 auf meinem Desktop installieren. Aber vielleicht ist ein Atomic Linux wie Bazzite die bessere Wahl?

I got a new laptop purely for better Rust compilation performance. Now, I'm almost done setting up my new bootable container-based Linux system. But I'm starting to worry about its performance. After all, I'm adding an extra layer (a container layer) on top of my bare-metal machine, which could introduce even a 0.001% performance degradation. I've already witnessed some performance degradation with Podman/Docker containers in my server-side work. #linux #bootc #AtomicDesktop #fedora
NixOS is cool, but it's nothing new. I've seen many smart people doing an excellent job with chroot, symlinks, and Chef/Puppet long before NixOS came along. A really cool thing is the Atomic desktop and bootc model. If you want a secure and solid environment, the Atomic desktop is the way to go. There's a learning curve, but it opens up a whole new world for you. #nixos #atomicdesktop #bootc

Welp, I'm back to installing a "light" distro on an old tablet with an Atom x5-Z830 (Cherry Trail).

The chip is relatively old for today standards, and 2GB of RAM doesn't help too much. #VanillaOS requires 4GB so there is that.

The purpose is to demo some HTML pages with the touchscreen. This is not negotiable.

Do you think Fedora Budgie Atomic will work on this little machine?

It won't install, lol

Error when rebasing from Fedora 40 to 41 (Atomic Desktop)

Greetings. I’d like to check out the Fedora 41 beta on my Silverblue system, and as usual, I tried to perform a rebase: $ sudo rpm-ostree rebase fedora:fedora/41/x86_64/silverblue The process goes on for a short while, before it errors out: error: Could not depsolve transaction; 3 problems detected: Problem 1: conflicting requests - nothing provides libdisplay-info.so.1()(64bit) needed by mutter-46.0-1.fc40.x86_64 from @commandline Problem 2: package gnome-shell-46.0-1.fc40.x86_64 from @c...
