@markmetz It boils down to this: the Kantian - or #Catholic, or #Orthodox, for that matter - #principle that people should never be treated as means to some end, however good or desirable that end might be, but should always be treated as ends-in-themselves. You can't murder a baby, even if the result would be to create a perfect world (Dostoevsky, "The Brothers Karamazov", Part 2, Book V, Chapter 4, "Mutiny").

The reactionary forces of the United States and the world have refused to change, refused to grow, and such is their hatred of growth and change that they've turned against them and devour their own children rather than endure them as rivals, as people with their own minds and ways. They loathe their own children and yet they still scrabble and scratch at everyone around them to preserve their hold on childhood, idealized and impossibly perfect childhood, as one of their core values.
Their social roles have telescoped into each other. Children are pushed into adult roles and expected to suffer the pains of adulthood, while adults openly long to remain childlike and immature, forever free from adult responsibilities. And the warped sexuality of the reactionaries gets into everything they do. They sexualize everything and everyone around them.
Astoundingly, even though there's decades of scandals that have hinted at the widespread depravity of right-wing (especially right-wing Christian) sexual mores and treatment of their children, they've gotten a pass. The sainted ex-Vice President Kamala Harris, when she was a prosecutor in California, connived with the Catholic Church in suppressing legal action over Catholic sexual abuse of children. I'm sure that she's a typical American prosecutor in this regard: U.S. authorities assist the #Catholic Church in preserving its illusion of stainless moral solidity.

After her arrest, her male attire was taken from her and she was forced to sign a document (which she may not have understood) declaring she would no longer cross dress. But when her captors returned her men’s attire, to test her will, she promptly put the clothes back on. During her trial, she vowed, 'For nothing in the world will I swear not to arm myself and put on a man's dress.'" Twenty-fiver years later, Pope Callixtus III declared her a martyr. In 1909, they beatified her and they granted her sainthood in 1920.
She rose to prominence during the Hundred Years’ War, which was essentially a feud between competing monarchies (French and English) that left the peasants poor, hungry and at risk of being slaughtered. England had been winning the war and had almost gained control over France when Joan of Ark decided to intervene. She had been having religious visions and was convinced that only she could turn things around for France. She travelled to Chinon to meet King Charles, disguised as a male soldier, which later led to charges of cross-dressing. Convincing the King to turn the conflict into a religious war, she led his troops in the Battle of Orleans. By many contemporary accounts, it was her military advice that won the battle. However, by her own words, she never killed a man, preferring to carry the banner “forty times better” than a sword. In the centuries after her death, she became legendary.
Historically, she has been portrayed as a saint, heretic, religious zealot, deranged teenager, witch, proto-feminist, and even as a Marxist liberator." Transgender activist, writer and communist, Leslie Feinberg, argues in Transgender Liberation that "Joan of Arc was burned at the stake by the Inquisition because she refused to stop dressing as a man… an expression of her identity she was willing to die for rather than renounce."
