Another #book I've read lately: "Empire in Black and Gold," first book in the Shadows of the Apt by Adrian Tchaikovsky.

This was a fascinating read. The various insect-themed powers are clever, while; the split between apt and inapt mimics the science/mysticism divide in Elder Race (one of his later books; I believe Empire was his first published).

There's a bit more head-hopping within scenes than I'd prefer, but that's a quibble.

Wow. There's some excellent books here, starting with The Sound of Stars, just superb. Can't recommend it enough. Then High Vaultage and Lessons in Chemistry. Cat Dragon & The Bartender Between Worlds were both lovely cozy fantasy.
