7016 – Mind Body of Time (The Datekeeper Tales)

A person of time had their body-time reversed
The Datekeeper was now a wyrm in a grey suit
Grey hair, emerald eyes and a dragon’s tail to match
In their head are the voices of time
The owner of the dragon clock
silver-scaled, platinum fire
hazel eyes, silver tongue
embroiled in the clock was the reptile’s consciousness,
kept safe from the wear and tear of time.

do you know how a collection of dolls hangs on a shelf?
There are clocks on display in this man’s workshop in a similar fashion
The clocks are his dolls
among the piles of history book stacked feet high
he sits in the back, at his inclined table
he messes with the innards of clocks
taking the screwdriver as his aid
He rearranges gears and other clock parts
at that desk in the back

do you know how a child’s trading cards are kept?
these clocks are protected in that way
The clocks are his prize
His hands tinker once more, cutting into the essence of time
A dragon’s clock was his subject of interest this time
Removing
lights burst from the clock’s heart
the whiteness engulfs, and thus he feels fear
Time immemorial

do you know how precious your pet is?
time, with its unconditional love, will bend to his will in the same way
because now, he is the fortitude of time

“Datekeeper.”

The Datekeeper is a wyvern who takes care of time. This is one of two poems in his collection, The Datekeeper Tales/Mind Body of Time. It is an ongoing catalogue of the Datekeeper’s shenanigans, written in poetry. Originally published December 1, 2024.

Welcome to a new episode of Dragon Street Talk! I gotta keep this short cause I got somewhere to be.

Sukuna (I guess that’s his name now)

I do! I worship the Grand Lord of Winter, Cosima Andino Karrucci! He holds the best parties, has the best win, teaches the best wisdom and helps those of us who pray to him every day. I’ve been a devout follower for years. He’s never let me down.

Nxoe

The Moon is my only religion.

She amplifies my power, I give her my prayer.

The Moon and I are in a symbiosis and I am thankful to be her Chosen One.

Interviewer: so that means you and Asunmo are her emissaries?

Nxoe: Who? Who the fuck is Asunmo???

Interviewer: ahhhh Nevermind.

Ava Marie

I do. There’s a beautiful winter dragon named Samael who I met before I left for Aqualet. I was dying in a snowstorm and he descended and cleared all of the snow by blowing it away. I don’t think a winter dragon could do that. I just thought they make more snow. I then watched him do things like heal people who got stuck on the mountain. He healed me! When I got home I googled him and found out he was a dragon god! Been praying to him ever since.

Interviewer: wait… AREN’T YOU A HUMAN???

This may come as a surprise to you but I do. I know I was born from something, but what of the universe itself? Despite what our tech and scientists might uncover, something had to have created the particles that led to this universe’s existence. I just know it.

In my head, science and religion go hand in hand. Science solves the ‘why.’ Religion provides the ‘who.’

Interviewer: interesting. I never would’ve thought you of all people would be religious considering you gave birth to most progenitor dragons.

Ashuton: ah, you mean The Vessel did.

Interviewer: that’s still you!

Ashuton: I guess…

Rin’s Past Jobs

What jobs have you had?

Today on Dragon Street Talk, we interview just one dragon again today. We have Rin, because I feel he is the best choice for this answer.

Rin

Hmmmmmmm~ what jobs did I have? Well, after I embarrassed my parents by sleeping with their (now former) political allies when I was a teenager, I was forced to volunteer at homeless shelters.

It didn’t last that long cause I made friends with a cute guy, brought him home, cleaned him up and tried to sleep with him. I gave him money and sent him to his family in Milano. He still sends me letters.

My job after that was working at a car dealership in Turino. I might’ve gotten caught driving one of them but but in my defense I thought I was supposed to. You know, show the person how it runs.

My next job was working at an art gallery in Firenze. I used to bring people to the back room so they could give me backshots. I don’t regret it. Artists and art appreciators sometimes know how to hit the spot more than most. Best thing is, I never got caught. My parents only found out because one of my trades decided to visit when my parents were VISITING MY JOB, talking bout some “where’s the beautiful prince that works here?”

Imagine having to explain that to your parents.

Anyways, some more failed jobs later and my dad sent me to work at a club with my uncle Massimo, seeing my hypersexuality as an uncontrollable tool to lure in their targets and enemies.

Interviewer: whoa.

Rin: I know.

Interviewer: I was speechless. First off, why are you like this? Secondly, that’s quite sad that your only use is being in a brothel.

Rin: It’s not sad. It’s my job. I met my best friends, I get to serve my family while still keeping my hole filled, and I get to take down traffickers.

Interviewer: but you have options to not be like this.

Rin: it’s not that easy, and I don’t hate my job. It’s not the worst thing in the world. Do you know how many hatchlings I saved before they could end up like me??

Interviewer: (it was at this moment I noticed his voice was breaking. Shit)

Rin: if I can keep a single hatchling from ending up like me… then my job is worth it. Worth it. Nobody understands this. They just see me singing and dancing and think it’s all sunshine and rainbows. I have heard the vilest things because the people I sleep with trust me with their secrets. I have put my immortal body through hell just to obtain information the regular polizia could not.

Interviewer: (He’s in a full breakdown. He’s crying so many tears. I need to stop this).

I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry. I didn’t know it meant so much for you.

(I gave him a hug, since I pretty much did insult his line of work it seems)

Rin: (sigh) whatever. (*sniff*)
