I've replaced this mirror/light three times over the years, and each new reproduction part seems to be a bad copy of the last copy. Out of the box, the parts don't even snap together. Admittedly, it was a crappy design to begin with. I am tempted to get out my soldering iron and make it more reliable.

Tackling some rust in my 1971 #vw #beetle. In the spare tire well, there is a bit of rust. Only a couple of small pinholes, though, so not required to cut it out and replace it. I just sanded out the loose rust with a wire wheel brush, and painted over with POR-15. POR-15 can go directly over rust, so you don't have to get all of it out. It'll protect it and keep it from rusting further. Not too concerned that it's not red, as it'll never be seen with the spare tire there. #aircooled
