Kit from #ActionTec and #Sagemcom remotely ruined and required replacement.

Almost half of #Windstream’s #Kinetic broadband users found their home routers completely dead, thanks to a malicious botnet known as #Chalubo. This happened seven months ago, but has only now come to light—via researchers who dubbed it #PumpkinEclipse.

It has echoes of Ukrainian #ISP modems mysteriously self destructing, just before the 2022 Russian invasion. In #SBBlogwatch, we wonder if this was a test of something bigger. ‘Pumpkin Eclipse’ — 600,000+ Rural ISP Routers Bricked Beyond Repair

Daft name, serious risk: Kit from ActionTec and Sagemcom remotely ruined and required replacement.

Security Boulevard

Wow, someone deployed malware in October of 2023 which bricked 600,000 Internet routers -- owned by a SINGLE ISP.

"over 600,000 small office/home office (SOHO) routers were taken offline belonging to a single internet service provider (ISP). The incident took place over a 72-hour period between October 25-27, rendered the infected devices permanently inoperable, and required a hardware-based replacement."

It's SO great that my home network can transfer data faster than the hard drives can write it! #2point5Gbgps

Thanks to my new #Plugable 2.5G #USBC adapters! Also bought 2.5Gbps #Asustor 5 Port switches to hook the major things together (#Synology, #iMac, #M1 #MBP13") and connected them to far points in the house using #ScreenBeam (#ActionTec sister company) #Bonded #MoCA 2.5 #Network #Adapters.

This is rock-solid and I would recommend the upgrade to any people wanting to upgrade #ethernet!
