Yes, six hundred thousand, you have read it right, routers have been bricked last #October of one ISP & one ASN by a piece of malware, forcing the ISP to replace them with better protected ones

Almost half of #Windstream’s #Kinetic broadband users found their home routers completely dead, thanks to a malicious botnet known as #Chalubo. This happened seven months ago, but has only now come to light—via researchers who dubbed it #PumpkinEclipse.

Here we see a grave consequence of #capitalism - Windstream, a hedge fund-owned company with an estimated $5.1 billion in revenue last year, didn't make the proper investments to ensure proper redundancy for the 911 system in Nebraska.

Will the hedge fund that controls Windstream be held accountable? Unlikely. According to the FCC, 66.29% of #Windstream is foreign-owned. Those investors are unlikely to care about #Nebraska
