New low in closed captioning ableism/audism...

Those familiar with this season will know the captions should have said Joel Dommett and Kumail Nanjiani.

Oh, well, hard to tell those brown comedians apart, I guess. /sarcasm

(The captions are craptions from YouTube. Taskmaster is licensed in several countries. They have enough money to upload with human captioning.)

According to recruiter, there are only 44 languages. One of them is morse. None of them are sign languages. Of course, the real world has thousands of spoken languages and several hundred sign languages.

The way that abled people censor captions when the audio is uncensored really helps communicate the paternalistic side of ableism - as if disabled people are somehow not capable of nor deserving of being privy to the same swearwords abled people are hearing as part of a person's means of expression.

@Nicovel0 It's not just an Albania thing. Medical ableism is very common. There are audiology offices in the US that don't have anyone who knows sign language, for instance.

Same for ophthalmology offices that don't use Braille. #Ableism #Audism

The way hearing people infantilize Deaf people...

It's a pretty common occurrence for captioners for shows to censor "bad words". However, now even when the captions are auto-generated, it does it (at least on YouTube). #Ableism #Audism

It is very rare for me to pay to buy or rent stuff from any of the digital film/TV markets these days, but I rented this and I highly recommend it.

Hearing people (even if they're hearing disabled people) need to watch this. @disability

@uk The original Reddit post capitalized 'Deaf', meaning the person is identifies as Deaf, is part of the Deaf community and culture, yet the Daily Record story you took this from lower case'd it.
