Ab Juli soll die Mehrwertsteuer auf ausgewählte Lebensmittel auf 4,9 Prozent gesenkt werden. Bei einem Ministerratsbeschluss im Jänner wurde festgelegt, welche Nahrungsmittel betroffen sind. Neben Kuhmilch, Eiern, Brot, Nudeln und Reis fallen bestimmte heimische Gemüse- und Obstsorten sowie tiefgekühlte und frische Hülsenfrüchte darunter. Hülsenfrüchte in getrockneter Form oder in Konserven, die gemeinsam 75 Prozent der verkauften Ware ausmachen, werden jedoch weiterhin mit 10 Prozent besteuert. Ebenso gibt es keine Steuerreduktion auf Tofu und andere Hülsenfruchtprodukte sowie pflanzliche Milch. Letztere unterliegt somit weiterhin einem erhöhten Mehrwertsteuersatz von 20 Prozent und wird nach den Plänen der Regierung ab Juli mehr als viermal so hoch wie Kuhmilch besteuert!
