Back home in #vermont where the rivers are still high and more rain is forecast. Here Otter Creek runs at over 6000 cfs through #Middlebury. The median for the date is ~400 and the old record ~3000! #52lakechamplain
Missisquoi River almost flooding, July 12, 2023. Major flood impacts were in the 2 watersheds south of the Missisquoi, but the water was still impressively high and turbid here as we passed by. #52LakeChamplain #Vermont #flood #flooding #floods
Otter Creek Falls in Vergennes, #Vermont. Otter Creek is the longest waterway entirely contained in Vermont. From Vergennes to Lake Champlain, Otter Creek is fully navigable and Vergennes was a shipyard in the early 1800s. #WaterfallWednesday #waterfall #52LakeChamplain
It’s been another busy week, but highlights including some parts of the #UVM campus off my normal routes. One spot rewarded me with this vista of #Burlington and #LakeChamplain. I love these everyday reminders of this amazing watershed we are working to protect. #52LakeChamplain #Vermont
Button Bay State Park, #Vermont was perfect for a low key family stroll on a cloudy Sunday. I imagine this point could be rather more crowded in hot weather. #52LakeChamplain #52hikes #12
Spent the week in Nevada/California, which is beautiful, but I’m so happy to be home sweet home in the Lake Champlain basin. Here two views from my flights. Outbound I had glorious views of Malletts Bay in Colchester, #Vermont. Inbound, I got to see the Charlotte-Essex ferries at work. #52LakeChamplain

The last few days have been a reminder that our beautiful #LakeChamplain is not insulated from the rest of the world. Wildfire smoke from Quebec has turned our skies orange and hazy and led to air quality alerts. At times, #Burlington hasn't even been able to clearly see the #Adirondacks across the lake. Hoping sprinkles of #rain last night and today help us out a bit.

Yesterday, my family paid a visit to Fort Ticonderoga in Lake Champlain's South Basin. Visiting the fort taught us about the strategic importance of the lake during the French and Indian War & Revolutionary War. Hydrologically, the La Chute River, which drains Lake George, empties into Champlain at Ticonderoga. This view is from Mt. Defiance looking north toward the fort, with the river mouth to its south. #52LakeChamplain #Ticonderoga #LaChute #NewYork #Vermont #LakeChamplain #RevolutionaryWar
Happy to be home in #Vermont! Stopped to get this view of the Lake Champlain #bridge. At this point the lake narrows to 1/2 mile, so it has been an important crossing point for centuries #52LakeChamplain
This week’s #52LakeChamplain view comes from the top of South Boquet mountain in Essex, #NY. #ChamplainValley farmlands, the blue waters of #LakeChamplain, and the distant peaks of #Vermont’s #GreenMountains. All as a reward for a lovely family #hike. #Adirondacks #NewYork
