We're nearing a complete #freeze over of #LakeChamplain - a rare occurrence in recent years. #WCAX recently reported that the lake regularly froze solid in winters into the 1940s. Since the 1970s, freezes have occurred in half or less than half of winters. This would be the first freeze of the 2020s.

Our First Alert Weather Team has been closely monitoring Lake Champlain and its rapidly expanding ice coverage over the past two and a half weeks. On Jan. 24, lake ice only expanded about 10 feet offshore in Burlington Bay. Today, closure of the lake is not just a possibility but a virtual guarantee.
