The #30DayFossChallenge is coming up again soon. Stay tuned here: http://foss.nullarch.com/

I'm hoping to be posting more about it this year than last.

We're several months out but I've mvoed The #30DayFOSSChallenge to a github page and a subdomain, so that it no longer relies on just me (and could maybe be expanded to other pages in the future:

The #30DayFOSSChallenge this year will be interesting... I have very little left to #FOSS-ify in my life. I'm leaning towards the following goals:

* Contribute to certain projects (like OSM) to make them more useful to me
* Reduce reliance on hosting companies and either self host at home or use #sneakernet solutions (not strictly Foss related but it does help reduce potential proprietary reliance)
* Educate/support others
* See what's new in FOSS since last time (especially games)

Wow I just realized how close April is, which means it's time for #30DayFOSSChallenge again already. I'll try to put something together for it this weekend. But for now, here's last year's version of the site: https://nullarch.com/30DayFOSSChallenge.html

And here's my blog about it: https://nullarch.com/blog/

The Finish Line – thoughts at the end of my 30 Day FOSS Challenge 2024

So it’s over. My 30 days+ of switching to free and open-source software comes to an end. The truth is that I’m late. Tying up loose ends has taken me a few days into May, but I thought …

To round out #30DayFOSSChallenge, I set up #nextcloud for me and my partner as an alternative to google drive. One usage I didn't anticipate but already found - nextcloud integrates very easily with any phone app that accesses local files. So I can store music or, in this case, an #audiobook (#drm free from libro.fm!) on nextcloud and stream it to an app for playback. For the audiobook, I'm using Voice Audiobook Player: https://github.com/PaulWoitaschek/Voice

Being drawn back to #GoogleMaps again by easy search by category (e.g. 'restaurant Cardiff') and customer reviews.

Would love to see #OpenStreetMap improve/add this functionality.

A more tricky week and a walk in the woods – part four in my 30 Day FOSS Challenge

Looking back on my last post, I feel I’ve not made much progress since then! But I’ve made a start on a few switches to open-source alternatives. They probably just need more time&#8230…
