Kherson is coming home!
(Legally Kinburn Spit is part of Mykolaiv Oblast, but geographically it is part of southern Kherson)
Unexpected treat from Euclid. Designed to capture billions of galaxies far away, Euclid turned and looked at our home for one day capturing millions of stars in the Milky Way. Makes me extra excited for the upcoming cosmology data!
Besides looking awesome the data will help scientist to look for exoplanets using microlensing, a general relativistic effect that shortly brightens a star when a planet passes in front of it by bending more light towards us.
For most of history, the great killer of soldiers was not combat but disease. Soldiers live in close quarters, frequently in rough conditions with rudimentary sanitation. When a communicable disease gets into that kind of environment, it rips through it like wildfire. For every soldier who was killed in combat during the American Civil War, two died of disease.
