Some people complain because we decided to change the registration process to focus on people with some sort of relation to this city #magdeburg.

This step was rather obvious: We deliberately put this necessity on our startpage to make it very clear what we want to focus on our instance. See screenshot below.

You don't go to a techno club to listen to Schlager, right?

Erwartet nicht, dass Mastodon wie Twitter funktioniert. Weil es ist nicht Twitter. Dinge funktionieren hier anders und das ist gut so. Deswegen sind die Leute hier im Fediverse. Weil's eben nicht wie Twitter funktioniert.

A big difference I noticed between the #fediverse and mainstream #socialmedia namely #instagram is the way "content" is edited. Insta is very visual so everything is wrapped into a picture. Even if the media type doesn't fit into a picture like text. Everything is cramped into this visual format. The fediverse is different. You choose the platform fitting your style. A little text, #mastodon, a lot of text, maybe #pleroma. Your cute photo...#pixelfed. All inside the same social network.

After using #instagram for about two to three weeks I decided to deactivate my account and delete the app on my phone. There's so much trash on there and I wasted a lot of time...although it was entertaining.
But the "last straw" was the very intrusive tracking by the app. It scanned my phone, offered app specific ads, listened my microphone w/o permission etc. Ads got extremely (I mean spot on) accurate for me and thats when I decided to quit. Too bad it is such a mainstream service.

Guys, I am tired of people posting screenshots, graphs, "news" and "information" without a reference to a source. All that is useless unless it's verifiable with a quick search. The fediverse isn't resistant against false information just because it's the fediverse. Use common sense, ask for a source and debunk fake news.

Recently I see a lot of my friends and phone contacts joining the #telegram messenger. Guys, I don't know what you are looking for, maybe more security or whatnot but you are just stepping from one puddle into another one.

#ilikemastodon because here I can read about radically new ideas, #anticapitalism, #anticensorship, #anarchism, #climachange, #activism, #foss, #antifa and many more ideas which challenge and sometimes opposes our current system and world view. It's a place for change and #mastodon it self lives this change. It challenges current social media technology and design. It supports it's users and promotes a healthy view on society and it's people by design.
