I have a children's book coming out in Oct 2023. It's co-authored & illustrated by my husband, @TealCartoons, and is all about medicine's battles with history's deadliest diseases. We'll be doing the cover reveal soon. We can't wait to terrorize your kids with medical history! #HistoryWritersDay22

Yesterday I have read a book and have heard the first time about "Jam Boys".
In the times of colonialism the rich golfers have used local boys covered with jam, to attract mosquitos (bees etc.) and to keep them away from the golfer. As gift the jam boy was allowed to "bring" the jam he was wearing home to his family.
Humans can be so bad... 🤬

Urban Dictionary: Jam Boy

The Jam Boy was first introduced as early as the 1800s when the British Empire occupied India. When the British gentry went to play golf, they would have two men, the caddy and a Jam Boy. The Jam Boys sole purpose was to keep the mosquitoes away from the golfer. To do this, the Jam Boy would cover himself in Jam to attract the mosquitoes away from the players. When the game was over the Jam Boy got to keep the jam he was wearing to take home to his family.

Ngl I’m just not as impressed by the contestants on #mastercheftheprofessionals as I normally am. The quality of contestants seems lower than usual.
Could this replace #twitter

In recent years, we became too comfortable letting #Twitter define journalism & media. Algorithms often dictated the narratives we collectively paid attention to.

Absurd trends were covered by news outlets & ballooned into major stories while we missed so much real substance. And the quick takes of uninformed politicians & bad actors were forced upon anyone participating in the network.

It was bad for democracy. The #Mastodon model makes me hopeful we can do better. #twittermigration

Here to bless your timeline
I hope this platform has staying power because even with all its glitches and quirks it’s better than what’s going on rn on Twitter
@joshtpm I think that's exactly the real takeaway for people with huge Twitter audiences. Twitter has a huge user base you can't ignore, even as it's shrinking. But Mastodon has a relatively small but EXPONENTIALLY growing user base. You shouldn't ignore that, either.
I’ve heard folks say ‘server/instance doesn’t matter’ —but it must, or we would not have them. I’d just like a basic break down of what they do for us, really. How to use them.
