An insightful comment by the chair of the National Transportation Safety Board.
Montreal still sees quite a bit fewer cyclists in the winter than in the summer, but the gap looks to be getting smaller. From 2021 to 2023, the biggest seasonal volume increase on the city's busiest bike corridor happened in winter.

@modacitylife Yes, the key here is that average cycling speeds are slower because more people (who are slower) are able to cycle.

Contrary to the decades long self destructive tirade of the vehicular cyclists, the dutch infra also accommodates fast cyclists riding lightweight racing bikes as well. The only way in which they are occasionally impeded is by the volume of cyclists, which is a wonderful problem to have.

@DanFox Happy to oblige. There are four officially recognized "groups" in the Senate. The Conservatives have 15 members, and still caucus with the the CPC in the House. They have their own Senate leader, Senator Don Plett - but they look to Pierre Poilievre as their party leader. They are still fiercely and proudly partisan, and take their role as opposition seriously. #SenateofCanada #cpc #SenCa #ConservativePartyofCanada #Canada #cdnpoli
Today I saw someone biking down Plains Rd in Burlington on a fully lit-up bike, wearing a Santa suit, and pulling a lit Christmas tree in a trailer. So epic. Anyone know who it is? #HamOnt #BikeTooter

There were a few big changes to Ontario's Intercity Transport Map in 2023, with a few more services starting up (and TOK’s Haliburton-Lindsay bus coming to an end) in January. Here's my updated map.

Taking stock of Ontario’s transport links in 2023

There were some big intercity transport improvements in 2023, though a few communities lost service. I updated my Ontario map to show these changes.

Oh my! I've found my new favorite website of all time: https://cyclingfallacies.com/

A list of all kinds of uninformed reasons people give for not making it safer and easier to bike, with rebuttals. This is exactly the kind of thing the internet is useful for!

It's available in many languages, and you can help translate it. The content is CC licensed. It's great!

Thanks to the fantastic podcast Bike Talk for letting me know about it!

archives: this Burlington Gazette article around the amalgamation of #BurlON in 1958, where officials said that "Burlington residents will be able to pay for the services they use" when talking about the low industrial tax-base.

Also sorry, I cut off some of the article at the bottom.😅

There were also mentions of:
- more density between Toronto and Hamilton
- cooperation with the Hamilton-Wentworth & Oakville-Bronte-Trafalgar boards.
