I've been blogging since 1998, most recently at gooutsidetoday.com where sometimes the domain name is advice for others and often a reminder for me. I enjoy doing new things and started #52Adventures, a project where I did something new every week. It went on hiatus for the pandemic but will be restarting soon. I love cycling (I haven't owned a car since 2004), running, cooking and writing. I've also been studying Hindi for almost a decade and enjoy chatting and writing in that language as well.

I am a huge fan of the Booker Prize winning Tomb of Sand by Geetanjali Shree and translated by @shreedaisy - one of the best books I've read this year. Despite its weight I read it quickly because I couldn't put it down, even reading it while cooking.

I just noticed that I still have a subscription to Epic which means there are 2.5 whole seasons of Raja Rasoi aur Anya Kahaniyaan left to watch. This is a great series about Indian regional food that pulls in history and culture as well. I watch it for Hindi practice but subtitles are available and there's at least one season on Netflix.

Last night I went out by bike to get a haircut. My last ride, as you might recall was cold, slippery, and stressful and put me off winter cycling completely. I swore it off until April. But now, remembering those rides and also having had a better ride last night I'm reconsidering such an absolutist reaction. Maybe I can get out in the winter sometimes after all.

A forgotten #BikeJoy of mine was night rides, particularly in the cooler weather. The streets and trails are especially beautiful at night. I haven't done one like this since 2020 but that year I went out almost every night for a ride or trail run.

How would you deal with, and more importantly, how would you scale a research project of that nature?
