Biochemist with #RNA-#Biomedicine PhD (#splicing meets #cancer) from CRGenomica in #Barcelona, now in #Brussels, soon in #Berlin.

Interested in life sciences and #SciencePolicy and how both play into each other.

More and more interested in #ScienceDiplomacy, #ScienceAdvice, #biodiversity #citizenscience & #Foresight.

I post about all the things above :)

Opening of the #quantum year in Berlin today. Complex scientific topic and yet highly relevant for policy (disruptive potential, geopolitics but also the value of fundamental science for technological advance) It will be interesting to see how the science-policy dialogue develops here. #scipol ๐Ÿงช

Genetic diversity ๐Ÿงฌ (and how to maintain it) is a very overlooked challenge in my opinion. Haven't listen to the podcast yet, but sounds like it's a good one to familiarize with the concept ๐Ÿงช๐ŸŒฟ #scipol

๐Ÿ‘‹ I have used mainly bluesky the last months, now there is an easy way to bridge posts between both networks. Love it.

So if you are interested in science policy, innovation policy, RNA, biodiversity and science diplomacy feel free to follow my bridge account here in mastodon:

As intro of myself to MASTODON. I am ICREA research professor in Barcelona working on #3DGemomics and #4DNucleomics using experimental and computational approaches. All of it applied to provide insights into open biological questions. We normally study evolution and disease.
This wasn't timed to run during #COP15 but I feel like some of those attending the

@nytimes A1. Many iNat users -- from across the political spectrum -- told me they are drawn to helping scientists monitor the planet's biodiversity. And the act of recording it, many said, has made the idea of losing it more painful. Link for nonsubscribers: https://tinyurl.com/yckxxzyu
An App for Naturalists Offers a Shared Sense of Reality

As civil discourse online and off increasingly proves elusive, a website devoted to identifying plants and animals may be teaching humans how to get along.

The New York Times
"Excuse me," said the robot.
"How can I help?" the librarian asked.
"I have just been manufactured. My training includes everything I need to work, and to navigate society."
"That's nice."
"But..."
"Yes?
"Is there more?"
"Yes!"

The abundance of moths in the UK has declined by 86% since 1970.

The world is changing from green to grey.

Part of a new series of 'biodiversity stripes' by Miles Richardson at http://www.BiodiversityStripes.info

BIODIVERSITY STRIPES

The biodiversity stripes show the variety and abundance of nature over time. From greater in green to less in grey.

BIODIVERSITY STRIPES

Dear Mastadon hivemind:

The http://www.BiodiversityStripes.info website is highlighting biodiversity loss, globally and regionally using a similar concept to the climate stripes.

We are looking for other sources of biodiversity data which can be turned into stripes to highlight this critical issue.

Any leads for long & coherent time series welcome!
