Meta says that Threads is going to support the fediverse ActivityPub protocol "soon." So there's no need to go to Threads and give more data to Meta. Make Threads come to you! https://www.wired.com/story/meta-threads-privacy-decentralization/
Don't Join Threads—Make Instagram's 'Twitter Killer' Join You

Meta’s Twitter alternative promises that it will work with decentralized platforms, giving you greater control of your data. You can hold the company to that—if you don't sign up.

Wow. Wordpress just announced they have to drop support for Twitter in their Jetpack post sharing plug-in as they haven’t been able to reach agreement with Twitter for access. They are committing to adding support for Mastodon!
The majority of the Web’s individually run websites are Wordpress! It’s ON!!

Why am I surprised. I had to verify it myself, but Twitter now labels CBC as 69% funded by the government.

CBC 'pausing' Twitter after 'government-funded media' label

TORONTO (AP) — The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation paused its use of Twitter on Monday after the social media platform owned by Elon Musk stamped CBC’s account with a label the public broadcaster says is intended to undermine its credibility.

Tiers will start at $500,000 a year for access to 0.3 percent of the company’s tweets. Researchers say that’s too much for too little data.

If Meta is really working on a new ActivityPub-powered social network, I see it as a very positive signal overall--my personal feelings towards Meta notwithstanding. For one, it's validation for our entire ecosystem from the biggest player. It also tells me that they don't see themselves as strong enough to keep users locked inside their walled garden anymore. It means the tide is really turning for interoperable social media, and that's always been the goal.

🚨BREAKING NEWS!🚨

Automattic, the company behind WordPress, is now co-authoring the ActivityPub plugin for WordPress.

The intent is to make WordPress a "first party Fediverse member" on par with Mastodon, Pleroma, and Pixelfed.

WordPress already powers 43% of all websites—and every one is a potential Fediverse server.

Automattic employee @kraft just confirmed this.

@[email protected] @[email protected] Matt is also in a position to get invited to these new platforms, so he should take it to check it out. He's been giving away invites to others at Automattic, especially engineers, to check it out. And, at the same time, Automattic is partnering up with the developer of the ActivityPub WordPress plugin to continue to iterate on WP being a first party Fediverse member. Jupiter and Venus from Earth

.

The sunset conjunction of Jupiter and Venus in 2012 was pictured by a creative photographer traveled away from the town lights of Szubin, Poland, to image a near closest approach of the two planets.

A faint red sunset still glowed in the background. Jupiter and Venus are together again this month after sunset, passing within a degree of each other about a week ago.
