“If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail".

This applies to many startups and the first question to ask is: "What problem do you solve for the customer?” Often the answer is technology X solves Y, but I find that simpler solutions or other, more stable technology would be much more appropriate while avoiding scaling and privacy issues. This especially holds true for many #blockchain based ideas. It is not a database.

Why? See first line and repeat … 🔁

It is sad that #technology is blamed all the time. It is not the #AI / #ML or the #blockchain or non fungible #tokens. The rage against it is a bit like rage against a loom.

Rage is appropriate towards the hype and the scams and people giving false promises.

This is how science and technology is devalued. Who wants to be associated with things that instantly lead to personalized hate. Blame those who misuse technology.

For those who are still willing to access the birdsite, this promises to be very entertaining:

Basically, someone discovered that the latex source "sparks of AGI" paper from MSFT includes a lot of commented out stuff and they're going through it.

[I just downloaded the source too and can confirm that the first thing they point out, at least, checks out.]

I tested it now with my wife's and daughter's accounts and it works like a charm. Not pretty, like in terms of "It's an App". But it nicely re-creates the folder structures.

Mathematician Emmy Noether was born #OTD in 1882. She made groundbreaking advances in abstract algebra, and her eponymous theorems articulated the deep connection between symmetries and conserved quantities in physics.

If you work in AI you should have an idea of what you would like the future to look like. Otherwise you are just haphazardly creating power multipliers for surveillance capabilities and destroying the economic viability of human labor.

Below is a link to a PDF of the #InternetArchive's final brief.

Arguments include:

- Internet Archive’s Digital Lending Is a Lawful Fair Use.

- The Internet Archive’s digital lending program is noncommercial.

- The Internet Archive’s digital lending program is transformative.

- Digital lending would still be fair use even if it were not transformative.

- Plaintiffs [book publishers] present no evidence of market harm beyond the unquantified suppositions of their executives and high-level observations about economic theory.
