@jamigibbs it's so nice they have medium sized boards. My merchant is 10' boards or 2' offcuts with endchecks and knots.

@kyleslattery setup a craigslist alert. You never know when a shop will liquidate, someone upgrades, or there is an estate sale. Our local guild runs estate sales and there are some solid prices on well cared for equipment.

@kyleslattery if you're looking to resaw save up for a nice 14" bandsaw. Those smaller units just don't cut it. Or become a member at a shared shop/maker space/guild/school and use theirs.

@btrwkart @jerry Have you considered a bandsaw? Much safer than a table saw and you can do more than just rips. Be able to resaw and thus bookmatch really brings things up a level. It's the only power tool Paul Sellers uses. Vic Tesolin refers to his as his apprentice.

Here's the final low bench. The left hand side has what Chris (and maybe others?) call a Hulot block. Note that it has a notch at the bottom for holding things vertically, a bunch of levels for holding things horizontally, and a hole to hold legs you might be shaving. I could have made this pretty easily and it would have been so nice.

The right side of the bench allows you to do workholding with wedges, as far as I can tell. #woodworking
