Earlier today Elon Musk said that my ban was temporary, 45 min later he denied my appeal to reinstate my account and confirmed that I am *permanently* banned. The email I just received says the decision cannot be reversed.
I have never once violated Twitters rules or terms of service. I’ve never had a single tweet flagged, my account was permanently banned with no warning and with no reason, after I reached out to Musk for comment.

So, trying to figure out where all the epidemiologists are. I see them here and there on this site, but there is nothing like #epitwitter yet. If you see an epidemiologist wandering around Mastodon, send them my way!
Tooting the Irish president with one of his dogs because every social media platform should see this and we need to see more dogs here! 💚 Boost away!

#Introduction I’m a #writer who hasn’t had a new book in far too long, but I’m trying to remedy that. I live in #seattle with my husband @dylanw and our 18-year-old trans son.

My Alabama roots show in my love of #auburn football and barbecue and the fact “y’all,” “fixing to,” and “might could” remain in my vocabulary.

What else? I love #history and #prehistory, not to mention #birdwatching. I’m an #Episcopalian lay preacher. I love to read and may have a slight podcast addiction.

I am particularly vexed by the continued usage of #ImmunityDebt. It is not an established concept, and has never been used prior to the pandemic. And it mixes and matches a) population immunity, which is trivially true, b) individual severity effects, which are not, c) has echoes of the still controversial 'hygiene hypothesis', and d) uses a loaded colloquialism - 'debt' - to whom, and why? Would much prefer we stuck to precise terminology.

I prefer the term #ImmunityTheft. Or the #LeonardiEffect.

The theft of years from your immune system age by depleting it of naive T cells. Or immune system dysfunction due to overstimulation, Tcell death.

I've been blogging about "why math education makes kids *hate* math"

My latest: An essay on how "timed" math tests -- i.e. get this stuff all done in half an hour, kids! -- utterly wrecks the confidence and joy even of kids who ordinarily love math and are good at it: https://clivethompson.medium.com/timed-math-tests-destroy-kids-love-of-math-ef6711c706e2

OK, this is significant, I think. Humanities Commons now has a Mastodon instance, at https://hcommons.social/about

There are lots of groups of scholars creating their own instances. Could it be one of the first steps towards public/non-profit institutions taking back control of another part of the scholarly communications chain? I hope so.

( Paging @mpe )

The European Union has an official #Mastodon instance where only official EU institutions could open an account: social.network.europa.eu

There’s no need to pay for a verified blue checkmark, accounts on this instance are, by definition, official!

The bird app has abruptly stopped working on my iPad (is this happening to other people?), and I’ve gotta say… that’s really making was was going to be a gradual withdrawal from the platform abrupt and total instead. Like, I could go through all kinds of hoops to get it working again, or I could just throw myself into my new community here.
