@stopfundinghate The fact that Mastodon doesn’t run on advertising, and therefore doesn’t rely on clicks/eyeballs (making the people the product for brands and businesses to buy) is key to avoiding hate on social media platforms like Twitter.
In the clamour for clicks, emotive/ triggering content is valued by advertisers, and the platform owners pander to them as the financiers of the platform.
Mastadon is soo much better than Twitter at fine-grained filtering/muting/blocking.
e.g. there's a certain word that annoys you, add a filter, and it's gone!
I'm really liking the 500-character limit here.
It just gives more space, when you need it, to chat in a conversational manner and expand upon some ideas.
Of course I've been trained up by The Other Place to be very pithy and cutting when I need to... but I'm rather enjoying the ability here to just stretch out my legs a little more comfortably on these mini-blogs. It feels nice.
