We are all lines in the sand, Sisyphus, forced to retrace our memories before they vanish. #randomthoughts

If this country was truly “pro-life,” we would have Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, gun reform, universal child care, and a living wage.

The right-wing agenda isn’t about “life.”

It’s about control.

A prolonged strike “will potentially produce an absolute collapse of an entire industry,” said ... Barry Diller ...

“Then it needs to collapse,” tweeted TV writer David Simon in response. “If you can’t figure out how to pay your workers a full, living wage and share some profit while grossing billions, paying yourself hundreds of millions, and making wall street analysts happy with your numbers, your industry needs to be ... rubble.”

A ‘guild versus evil’ moment in Hollywood’s strike

The simultaneous strikes by screen actors and writers, the first since 1960, are upending lives, livelihoods and multiple industries.

Many people imagine professional astronomers hunched over a #telescope and taking notes. We no longer work that way, as light captured by the telescope is registered by complex instruments. But sometimes it's fun to use your eyes!

I took this pic a few years ago, when we removed one of the instruments of ESO's Very Large Telescope in #Chile. A screen was temporarily attached in its place, and we used it to project the #Moon and show it to everyone at the observatory

For thousands of years, fermenting beer was considered a household task for #women.

By the Middle Ages, some sold beer at English markets. Female brewers wore tall, pointy hats to be easily spotted. They stood by cauldrons & often had cats to keep mice away.

Sound familiar? It should.

You see, when male brewers felt threatened, they accused the women of witchcraft. These rumors may have led to some witch iconography we still recognize today.

Women used to dominate the beer industry – until the witch accusations started pouring in

Today, beer is marketed to men and the industry is run by men. It wasn’t always that way.

In 2019 I spent a month in SE Asia, during which I spent a week in Vietnam, at Cuc Phuong National Park to be exact. We were hiking a trail up in the hills one night when one of my friends spotted this Mossy Frog (Theloderma corticale) in a small tree, one of those species you hope to see but don’t harbor any expectations. It turned out to be one of five species of anurans encountered in maybe a ten meter stretch of trail. An unforgettable experience. #frogs #amphibians #herps #herpetology
"12 ways to reduce cars in cities" ranked by effectiveness.
Really interesting combination of carrots and sticks, with the sticks having higher overall effectiveness. Most likely, need to use both in combination. HT @BrentToderian , @giulio_mattioli FYI https://theconversation.com/12-best-ways-to-get-cars-out-of-cities-ranked-by-new-research-180642
