Immunologist @ IUSM. Chair, Microbiology and Immunology. Editor-in-Chief, ImmunoHorizons. Trying to make the world a little less immunodeficient.
So this is when I am going to miss the bird site and the ability to widely broadcast some cool findings very easily. We have three new Pepper lab manuscripts to discuss. The first to make it online is beautiful work from my graduate student Laila Shehata identifying a critical role for IL4 in memory B cell selection in the GC:

Major advance on our understanding of the mechanisms of immunotherapy response. Potentially explains variability in associations of delta gamma T cells with clinical responses and underlines the importance of large longitudinal cohorts in teasing out hypotheses. #immunotherapy #cancer #immunology

γδ T cells are effectors of immunotherapy in cancers with HLA class I defects - Nature

γδ T cells contribute to the response to immune checkpoint blockade treatment in patients with HLA-class-I-negative DNA mismatch repair-deficient colon cancers. .

Really happy to see this paper is out! It’s the brainchild of our dear postdoc Jonatan Ersching, who passed away in 2020. It’s not only a science story, but also the story of how we came together as a lab to finish what Jony started.

Nothing better than watching Republicans tear themselves apart over who is vile enough to lead them.
For those who read Santos' resumé and saw "ImmunoHorizons Editor-in-Chief" let me reassure you that I am still the Editor-in-Chief of the real @[email protected] and for the last time in 2022, we welcome your descriptive and incremental immunology articles . ih.msubmit.net
We are here now too. What to do next? Please follow https://mstdn.science/@CytokineSociety. #cytokines #cytokinesociety The ICIS is the premier organization promoting the field of cytokine biology across many different research disciplines at a time when cytokine biology, cytokine biomarkers and cytokine therapeutics are revolutionizing modern medicine, providing novel treatments for a wide variety of diseases ranging from lethal inflammatory, autoimmune and allergic diseases, to viral infections and cancer.
A request for media outlets: please don't use loudness on social media as a proxy for expertise. For biomedical sciences, try going to https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/ and typing in the person's name and affiliation and see if you come back with primary research publications that are highly relevant to the topic. If not, please consider interviewing someone else/declining op-ed pieces. Lots of bizarre stuff out there that could be avoided with this simple step.

Indiana ended fiscal year 2022 with a budget surplus of $3.9 BILLION (with a "B"!). This is the largest budget surplus for the state since at least 1976 (which was as far back as I went) by a huge margin and SIX TIMES what the state predicted it would see in 2022.

I would love to see this record surplus lead to record investment in education, healthcare, economic development, social programs and infrastructure.

The harassment of public health officials and simultaneous mocking of transgender individuals from Mu$k was it for me. I will no longer be using Twitter. So figured I'd do a proper #introduction here!

I'm a PhD candidate at the #UniversityofWashington Seattle's MCB program. I study host-microbe interactions in the intestines in Ollie Harrison's lab who is at the Benaroya Research Institute.

I enjoy all manner of outdoor pursuits outside the lab and love to create by baking and crafting.

OK, I have no clue how to use this but I am now here.
