Okay, Mastodon friends, I rarely ask for amplification about my day job, but I personally pushed for my employer to make a big investment in enabling the fediverse, and I'd love for everyone to show that the support is appreciated. On June 28, you can join us for a (FREE!) hands-on conversation about how the Fastly team worked to support @Mastodon while the service was under a *massive* DDOS attack. Everyone who cares about scaling the fediverse should join: https://learn.fastly.com/security-mitigating-ddos-and-traffic-surges-with-mastodon @devs

Erin features a recent Data for Progress survey which finds that 8% of transgender people have already moved out of their community or state as a result of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, and another 43% are considering moving — 130-260,000 transgender people have relocated due to the wave of hate Republicans have created across the US against them.

I keep thinking about #RealityWinner and #ChelseaManning. 2 heroic #whistleblowers who also leaked #classified documents, but for noble reasons. Neither of them got released on bail or OR while they awaited trial.

So why is Trump not in jail? He is an obvious flight risk (after all, he owns his own private plane!) and there is an ongoing risk that he will continue to leak classified information (even if he doesn't still have the paper documents).

The 20 year ban against CDC NIH research into gun violence, established by 2A sponsored legislators, has to be up there.

"1993, Arthur Kellermann, MD, then at the University of Tennessee, and colleagues published a highly publicized paper that found keeping a gun in the home was strongly associated with an increased risk of homicide by an intimate acquaintance or family member (The New England Journal of Medicine, Vol. 329, No. 15, 1993). After the paper’s publication, the National Rifle Association lobbied for the elimination of the CDC’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, which funded the study. In 1996, Congress responded by passing an appropriations bill that stated that “none of the funds made available for injury prevention and control at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention may be used to advocate or promote gun control.” "
The next year, the last budget set for gun research assisted to traumatic brain injury.

From a live tweet of the proceedings around the lawyer caught using ChatGPT:

"I thought ChatGPT was a search engine".

It is NOT a search engine. Nor, by the way are the version of it included in Bing or Google's Bard.
