Intro post! I'm an assistant prof in #geography at #UBC. I work on landscape #ecology of tropical forests and savannas, interested in feedbacks between vegetation, disturbance, land-use change, and climate, using #remotesensing and field methods.
While everyone else’s cars were buried under 20 cm of snow in #Vancouver, I had no problem getting my #ebike out of the basement to go buy a sled for my little one’s first #snowday!
Well, the #bonsai are definitely well insulated now. #YVR #Vancouver #snow
the pandemic might chill out. But no, we’re going to force disabled people who are high risk to be stuck in their homes forever. It makes me so mad and sad seeing people not wearing their masks in public. It’s a huge sign that they don’t care about disabled and high risk people, or just people in general. And that’s sad. Makes my blood boil. 3 #angry #disabled #covid #disabledcovid #COVID19 #longhaulerscovid #PASC #LongCovid #LongHaulers #mask #masking #masks #wearyourmask #WearYourDamnMask
@juni I dried myself with a towel yesterday. It is clearly an attractor for lint because I basically covered myself in black fluff from whatever else it had been dried with. Laundry is a mysterious process. How is it that fitted sheets have so much trouble going over mattresses, and yet will fill themselves with everything and anything when put in the washer/dryer?
Working on making little stamped/textured prep bowls today. Small pieces like this are good for a day when I'm not feeling ambitious, but still want to get my hands dirty. They will also work nicely to test some new glaze combinations.

#whyistayonmastodon sounds like an giant undecipherable mess of sounds.

#WhyIStayOnMastodon reads out "Why I Stay On Mastodon" 😄

(Reason #44 I stay here: my previous requests like this have been generally well-received, proving that most people are awesome.)

No one can objectively say whether the Entomological Society of America has a responsibility to say something about Paul Ehrlich (who is American & is an entomologist) popularizing the ideas that led to forced sterilization in the developing world. But I do think it's problematic that ESA published a softball Paul-Ehrlich-is-so-great piece in its flagship magazine, American Entomologist, in the year 2021.
